First stop was Kelsay Farms, a sixth generation dairy farm
and crop farm. The dairy operation milks cows 3 times a day. The kids enjoyed
milkshakes and a tour about how their operation works and the different types
of jobs they have on the farm.
The second destination was Ozark Fisheries. Here we were
taken on a tour that showed the ponds and hatching areas. It is a family owned
and operated farm that is full of ornamental goldfish and koi. We learned about
the different type of fish and how the fish are grown.
Last but
not least the third stop was Umbarger Show Feed Mill. They are a fourth
generation family owned and operated business located in central Indiana. The
students were shown different types of grain, the feed formulation process, and
how the packaging process works.
